Istanbul (Not Constantinople) – Milan and Phoenix

Istanbul (Not Constantinople) – Milan and Phoenix

While originally a 1953 song by The Four Lads, most people remember this as a They Might Be Giants song, and this remix is of that version. It’s a really well done dance/techno mix of an old swing style song. Definitely one that can be listened to multiple times.

Just Another Victim – Helmet & House of Pain

Just Another Victim – Helmet & House of Pain

Helmet and House of Pain made this song for the Judgement Night Soundtrack, This entire album is just collaborations, between rap groups and rock groups, it is probably in the top 20 best albums ever, every single song on it is great, and a perfect pairing. This song is my favorite on the album as the two bands just seem to mesh perfectly, and the song has two different parts, one more rap, one more…

From Out of Nowhere – Five Finger Death Punch

From Out of Nowhere – Five Finger Death Punch

Faith No More is usually the band doing the covers, but this time they are being covered. This is a really good cover of the FNM Song from the Album The Real Thing by Five Finger Death Punch,  I like that they put a really heavy metal twist on the song, without changing the song too much. I have been a huge fan of FNM since the mid 90’s and I think this is now one…

Bring the Noise – Anthrax, Public Enemy

Bring the Noise – Anthrax, Public Enemy

This is one of my first, and favorite, collaborations I ever heard. It almost single-handedly kick started my love for Rap/Metal mixed songs. Chuck D has stated that upon the initial request of Anthrax, he “didn’t take them wholehearted seriously”, but after the collaboration was done, “it made too much sense”. It was included on the Anthrax album Attack of the Killer B’s and on Public Enemy’s own Apocalypse 91… The Enemy Strikes Black, and was followed…

Sweet Dreams – Marilyn Manson

Sweet Dreams – Marilyn Manson

This song is a cover of the Eurythmics song. Marilyn Manson added some extra lines to the lyrics that are not present in the Eurythmics version: “I wanna use you and abuse you/I wanna know what’s inside you” along with “I’m gonna use you and abuse you/I gotta know what’s inside you. The video for Manson’s cover contains several clips of Manson and bandmates in what appears to be an abandoned building. In between the clips…

Hong Kong Phooey – Sublime

Hong Kong Phooey – Sublime

This Sublime song is a cover from a song on the Saturday Morning Cartoons’ Greatest Hits, which is a great compilation of bands doing cover songs from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s cartoons. The original song was the sung by Scatman Crothers, who played Dick Halloran in the Shining.
